Indistinct Figures or Symbols
This book is filled with more indistinct figures or symbols than perhaps any other canonical book. This is certainly one of the reasons why many serious Bible students avoid studying the book, and why many preachers avoid preaching from it. Examples of these figures follow.
2:17- To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
4:6 ff.- And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind…etc.
6:13- And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
8:11- And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
13:18- Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
