Summing Up Chapter 1: The Need for Redemption

In this chapter we have seen first, that there was underlying certainty that God would work to redeem and deliver His people from Egyptian slavery.

=> The fulfillment of His great worldwide redemptive purposes demanded

it.

=> If our lives are going to rise above this terrible destiny, God is going to

have to intervene.

=> The very character of God was at stake. (He had promised that He

would bring them out.)

Additionally, we have seen that God worked through their circumstances to drive them to deeply long for redemption and deliverance.

=> They had to learn that prosperity is always short-term in Egypt.

=> They also had to learn that connections in Egypt do not last.

=> They came to see that life in Egypt always becomes one of bitter hard

bondage and serving with rigor.

=> They eventually learned that remaining in Egypt was a matter of life and

death.

Application of these truths to God’s people in the Present Day

=> God never alters His commitment to the fulfillment of His great

worldwide redemptive purposes in His Son.

=> Therefore, everything in our lives is intended by God to further those

purposes.

=> Repeatedly, God must bring us, as He did the Hebrew people, to the

place of crying out to Him for deliverance.

=> He does this by using the circumstances in our lives to reveal our folly

and its consequences, as He did with Israel.
